RENAULT reported the talks with a number of malakukan Daimler officials in a partnership that has the potential to cut their production costs.

Renault Oprating Chief Officer Patrick Pelata said it was in talks with Daimler and he added that almost all car manufacturers involved in similar discussions. "We were discussing the serious problems with Daimler," said Pelata to the press of Europe, Friday morning (18/12).

"The car manufacturer held a discussion with their neighbors. And we happened deep in conversation with one of them," he added. Pelata confirmed that Renault was looking for a way to cut development costs by sharing the engine, transmission platforms and new technologies.

He said again that the global financial crisis has pushed the vehicle manufacturers to share the funding for something that is very expensive as the development of electric vehicle technology.

Speaking to Reuters, Daimler representative said: "We are in talks with several manufacturers, including Renault about a possible cooperation."

Meanwhile, PSA Peugeot-Citroen is also in talks with rivals Daimler, BMW, about the potential expansion of cooperation that has existed between PSA Peugeot-Citroen and BMW.

As reported in February by the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport that the Daimler CEO Dieter Zietsche seemed to announce a new partnership in early 2010.
