ATS 2500 GT Coupe, made by Auto Mobili SpA Turismo e Sport (ATS), car manufacturers and the Italian racing team that operated very short between February 1962 until 1965. This company's core principals is Carlo hiti and Giotto Bizzarrini, both of which directly involved in the development of the Ferrari GTO. Both 'defected' from the 'palace revolution' of the famous Ferrari in 1961 with the intention of directly challenging his former employer.

Development of the basic concept car that ultimately was named ATS GT really begin when Chiti was still working at Ferrari. While still in Chiti Ferrari Enzo owned company was handling the project was to produce a vehicle with the engine in the middle (mid-engine).

After the departure of Chiti and Bizzarrini, the concept is done under the auspices of the new ATS organization. While the Ferrari 250LM development of mid-engine take place in conjunction with V12 engine based on the direct instructions Enzo Ferrari, not a V8 engine.
With the support of three wealthy businessmen, including Count Giovanni Volpi, founder of the famous Scuderia Serenissima, ATS developed two models. Road sports car and Grand Prix racing car whose development involves a number of famous drivers such as 1962 World Champion Phil Hill, who fell to the drivers on the racing team ATS. Meanwhile, a number of other famous racing driver, was involved in the development of a sports car for the road ATS.

To build a sports car road, ATS embrace Sefarino Allemano, designers build (coachbuilder) bebasis famous car in Turin Italy. The result is a car with a slim figure, designed by ex-Bertone designer Franco Scaglione who was named ATS 2500 GT Coupe.

Beautiful car was originally a mid-engine 2.5-liter V8 engine designed by Chiti. Made with cylinder blocks and heads made from lightweight alloy, ovehead single camshaft (SOHC) in each cylinder bank, while the supply of fuel using Weber carburetors quartet (four barrels) twin-choke.

220-250 bhp-powered vehicle has a tubular chassis of chrome-molybdenum (chromemoly) berspesifikasi racing with full independent suspension combined 4 sets of brake discs. With such specifications, the ATS GT Coupe is a disguised race car that can reach a maximum speed of more than 257 km / h!

This car made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963 and reaped a sensation with mid-engine layout, design like a shark body, carrying the design and specification which was inspired from race cars.

In the end only 12 chassis was built and only 8 cars that are completed by the company's capital is insufficient. Volpi reportedly left the organization with the car chassis numbered 2004 (which will be discussed later) with the remaining 4 chassis is not complete with the purpose of making his own body and called it by name Serenissima Chiti design machines which increased to a 3.0 liter.

Chassis 2004 was to use 3.0-liter engine, also has a Serenissima emblem on the nose that seems to attach itself by Volpi. He never uses this vehicle and finally he gave to Alf Francis in exchange for payment of honorariums Francis worked in the ATS during the hard times.

Francis was previously a mechanical Stirling Moss who later became the owner of a racing team with extensive connections in Modena. Francis then 'mengilik' ATS new coupe and drove for some time, but this vehicle was never registered (such application to obtain vehicle registration) by it.

Francis then sell the vehicle to Bruce McIntosh along with a spare 2.5-liter engine circa 1966. McIntosh officially registered as the first owner, but unfortunately the car was damaged in an accident when the vehicle has been running for 3000 km.

Damage, making chassis 2004 requires repair which requires replacement of the nose with a factory-made components. These improvements made in a company in England called the Grand Prix's Metalworks in Holloway Carl Rosner then moved to Wembley, both located in North London.

Apparently, the car repairs take a long time than expected. McIntosh had lost interest in the car and sell it to Rosner who never really finish it until the car repairs when he decided to sell back in 1971.

Long story short, vehicles purchased by the fans believed that this obscure McNamara eventually purchased by Norbert California, which was recorded as the drivers and collectors who have exhibited ATS in Geneva with the chassis numbered 2001 which has replaced the engine Chevy engine.

Incidentally he was looking for the original engine ATS, and he bought in 2004 for sale along with a backup machine with his original ATS machine. Since is complete, McNamara showed his pride in the vehicle exhibition of rare cars prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
