After robbing a bank in the country, Dillinger and his gang hid in Little Bohemian Lodge in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin on April 22, 1934. When the landlord informed the authorities about their whereabouts, the FBI, led by the legendary Melvin Purvis arrived at the scene and immediately opened fire on the place.

Dillinger, along with two cronies escape through a window and into the woods nearby, and then met Robert Johnson who was driving a Ford Model A coupe that you can see here.

They seized the vehicle with his driver and fled into Minnesota. Dillinger broke the glass and the rear vehicle opened fire on the pursuing law enforcement with tommy-gun weapons.

Car full of bullet holes then become the property of Dillinger's family for decades until finally restored carefully by the producer for the film Public Enemies is used in scenes depicting the atmosphere of persecution.
