Hildebrand & Wolfmuller (H & W) 1895 is a twin-engine motorcycle twin, 4 valves 1.488cc-capacity water-cooled. Sounds like a modern machine, but it is true that machines such unusual rarity.

Just look at the diagram above, then you will see the rear wheels which double as the flywheel (flywheel). Connecting rod piston and rod pressure (pushrods) which moves in the valve gear is also pasted on the rear wheels.

There was no clutch, brake, what else transmission. However, many rituals that must be done to
can run the first motorcycle in the world that will be auctioned for the 40-60 thousand Pounds Sterling.

Antique motor is present in the condition it is, aka not needed anymore restored so that no little cost to restore to normal condition. This vehicle is owned by a family since the 1930's which last year estimated as the vehicle is run.

Patented in January 1894, motorbike H & W had a good response. Plans to establish a factory in Munich was proposed to produce these vehicles. Through licensing, this vehicle was also produced and marketed in France with the brand 'La Petrolette'.

Although some demonstration by the manufacturer quite impressive rider, motor weakness of H & W became very clear when starting accepted by consumers. In early 1897, the two companies both in Germany and France eventually folded.

It is not clear how many of these vehicles that have been produced. But at least between 800 to 2,000 units. While that still survive until now, was certainly very rare.

Henry and Wilhelm Hildebrand brothers developed their bikes to work together with the mechanics Wolfmuller Alois, Hans Geisenhof. They design the twin double cylinder engine (twin cylinders) water-cooled, four-step 1.488cc capacity. Maximum power is only 2.5 hp at 240rpm. The maximum speed that can be achieved by H & W is 30 miles per hour or about 48 km / hour.

Bonhams hold regular auctions of motorcycles and vehicles will take part in the International Classic Motorcycle Show in Satfford on 25 April next.
